CHARLES & ALICE
Wilkinson Sword is an English brand of shavers for women and men, known and sold internationally. This company has seen many changes throughout history!
It begins in 1772, thanks to a man: Henry Nock. This British man works for King George III as armorer when he decides to start his own business. He started his business of bayonets and firearms, which was very successful. At his death thirty years later, this business goes to his son-in-law, a man named James Wilkinson. James, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, decides to further develop it by completing his range of weapons with swords. His expertise in blades and the precision with which they are manufactured quickly enables him to gain notoriety. With his know-how and his awareness of innovations, James enters the emerging market of shavers. In 1898, the company introduced the Pall Mall, a safety model of shaver. This new object is the first in a long series of novelties.
120 years later, Wilkinson Sword is still demonstrating its blade expertise, for women and men. This month, it’s the new Hydro Silk Special Curves shaver that made a big impression on our consumer community of MonAvisLeRendGratuit! It is made with five soft blades and two reservoirs of moisturizing serum to leave a divine skin. This know-how is largely rewarded since the product takes the first place of the podium of July!
Charles and Alice, it’s a young French brand full of talent and flavors. It’s in 1976 that the story begins, in Drôme a beautiful area of France. It will take 25 years to taste the first dessert without added sugar, made of the good fruit of the orchard.
In the 2000s, the brand signed with 3 arborists of the PACA region, to plant organic apple trees. The first range of dessert without added sugar and with organic French fruits is launched, while the artisanal company collaborates with the company Charles Faraud to launch the brand Charles & Alice in 2011.
Initially the brand entered the market with its compotes. Because it was very successful, its founders have diversified their know-how to offer a range of mousse. Last year they went even further by launching new vegetable recipes with almond milk and coconut milk.
Today it is his range of juices that convinced our community MonAvis! And especially the apple juice “Le Jus Français”, made with apples from Val-de-Loire hand-picked and cold-pressed in France, to preserve all their flavors. Faithful to the values of the brand, this juice is free from added sugars and additives, in a recyclable glass bottle.
Consumers of MonAvis placed this product in the second place of t
The Alvalle gazpacho was born in 1990 in the region of Murcia (southern Spain), in the Guadalentín Valley, thanks to a man named José Maria Casanova.
He carefully selects fresh vegetables from his area and mixes them, without adding anything else. 30 years later cold soups are still produced without additives, dyes or preservatives. The name Alvalle is composed of the two words “Al valle”, which means “in the valley” in Spanish. It’s a truly natural brand!
The company markets its first soups in 1991 and opens the same year its factory in Murcia. The range of products offered by Alvalle expands over the years, and this since 1996 with the Salmorejo. It is a typical Spanish soup, made of mixed tomatoes and bread.
The brand is becoming more and more successful, especially internationally, since it has been entering the French market since 2004. In 2015, it receives the prestigious Food of Spain award, which recognizes the excellence of Spanish food products.
Today, Alvalle in France offers a range of 7 cold brick soups, but also a range of 100% recyclable plastic bottles. This is the original recipe of gazpacho in bottle that the community MonAvis has widely solicited, placing this product in third position of the podium of July.
The Bizouard family, in 1919, takes a mustard recipe and deposits the brand Amora, subjugated by this “love of mustard”. In 1934, Raymond Sachot bought the business and decided to make it prosper. The latter is an expert in communication and wants to test his know-how on his new mustard business. Posters, national wholesalers, postcards … the brand is becoming famous and starts to be a leader in the mustard market.
In the 1950s, he had a genius idea: create a collection of glass jars! Collectible glasses are a big success. Later, in 1992, the slogan “For love of taste!” appears and definitely convinces consumers. Over the years the brand has also developed different ranges of ketchup, barbecue sauces, mustards and other condiments, but especially a range of pickles.
In July, members of the MonAvisLeRendGratuit community tested a recipe of the brand: pickles with five spices & herbs. And they loved it! By giving the product a score of 4.3, they placed him in fourth place on the July podium.
The Materne brand was registered in 1888 in Wépion, Belgium, by Édouard Materne. With his wife, they grow and cook fruits. The jam of his wife is so good that he decides to set up a factory!
Beet growing and therefore sugar growing rapidly, the business of Materne works perfectly. The following generations take over the business and make it flourish.
1970s are very difficult because W.R. Grace, a holding company from the United States, arrives in Europe and buys companies to industrialize them. This holding company leaves Europe a decade later, leaving companies breathless. Two of the acquired business, Materne and Confilux, work together to recover. They create consistent communication around their respective products in the 1980s, and above all they claim quality.
Materne resumes its growth and develops different ranges of compotes, jams and other sweet desserts. The Andros group entered the capital at the end of the last century, becoming a majority shareholder. But the Materne company remains an independent entity and found in 1998 Pom’Potes. This is a brand of compote in gourd which is very popular thanks to its practicality. Pom’Potes is today leader in this market.
In July, MonAvis members had the chance to taste the Pom’Potes without added sugars, with good apples harvested in France. They have obviously appreciated because this product takes fifth place in the July ranking!
